The Matija Copper Alloy Flute

Innovation Meets Elite Boston Heritage

Crafted by master flutemaker Boris Popovich, the Matija copper alloy flute represents 25 years of uncompromising dedication to the art of instrument making. Rooted in the strict technical standards and precision of Boston’s world-renowned flute-making tradition, this instrument is built for professionals who demand flawless execution and a distinct artistic voice.

Why the Matija Copper Alloy?

  • Acoustic Innovation: The specialized copper alloy composition yields a deeply resonant, warm, and colorful tonal palette that projects effortlessly across registers.

  • Unmatched Playability: Engineered with a responsive mechanism that feels natural under the fingers, allowing for seamless fluid transitions and precise articulation.

  • Flawless Consistency: Every tonehole, pad seat, and mechanism is meticulously calibrated to guarantee rock-solid stability and reliability day after day.

  • Direct Craftsmanship: By eliminating the corporate prestige markup, you receive a master-built, premium instrument directly from the maker who designed it.

This flute resembles gold and silver, and it’s beautiful, however you need to be very careful with the body so that the lacquer doesn’t wear off too soon. For cleaning you can use Yamaha lacquer polish available around the world as far as I know. Eventually the lacquer will wear off, and it will need to be re-applied. Check your local brass instrument repair shop. They might be experienced with the process, although any flute repair shop could do it as well. Just take it apart, lightly polish, and spray with good quality transparent lacquer.  In the meantime if you notice some spots that have developed tarnish, you can use a little bit of lacquer spray locally. Just clean the spot first of greese and dirt.
