Please note that ebonite flutes are not in stock because there are so many colors to choose from, and the ebonite rods come from Germany. The wait time is anywhere between 30 and 60 days to complete the flute. We need to start from scratch, a solid ebonite rod that has to be milled by CNC machines, then mechanism attached and so on. It takes time.
We are switching to German ebonite and the current wait time is 60 days for the readily available colors in the slideshow below, however the ebonite rods still have to come from Germany, and it takes time for the flute to be made after that as well. Many other colors to chose from if this is not enough, but the wait time could be over 90 days.
Ebonite is a natural material made from rubber under high pressure to get similar qualities like ebony wood. Acoustic properties are actually better than natural ebony. It responds quicker, and resonates better. Boris Magnetic pads, patented system superior to all other pads on the market.

This ebonite flute has become one of my favorites. Members of the orchestra do not know it is ebonite until they see it. I sound like myself. Though I normally play C foot, this flute goes down to B and is the only “B foot” which gives me no difficulty. The construction and feel of the mechanism is solid and secure; Boris magnetic pads allow for good response. II had an issue once with the adjustment, sent it to Boris and the flute returned better than ever. It IS heavier than one might be used to but I’ve not tried the new German ebonite. Again: this flute holds its own against an orchestra.
